Happiness and Perfection

June 2, 2011

The further I get into parenting, the more I realize that parenthood is just like anything else. If you are only happy when you’re perfect at it, you’re never going to be happy.

~ The Single Dad

No matter how hard I try, I often forget this piece of wisdom.  As a mother, wife, and woman I too often compare myself to a perfect ideal.  Accepting my best instead of my this unattainable ideal is something that I have been working on for years.  It amazing how much guilt, anxiety, pressure, and unhappiness striving for perfection induces.  The weight that is lifted off my shoulders when I accept my best and forget about being perfect is immense.  As Single Dad says, all that I can do is try to have more better moments where perfection is forgotten.
